Music Ministry
Due to health concerns surrounding the COVID-19 coronavirus,
we have suspended all music rehearsals and gatherings until further notice.
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises!  Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody!  With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!
                                                                                                                               — Psalm 98:4-6
Music is an important part of the way we praise and worship God, and FUMC Tallassee has a very strong musical tradition.  We offer many opportunities for people of all ages to become involved in our Music Ministry, and are very welcoming and encouraging of newcomers.  Come and make music with us!
Music for Children and Youth
Alpha Bells (2nd – 6th grades)
Wednesdays at 5:30 pm, Bell Room (204)
Our youngest handbell choir is a perfect fit for musical beginners!  Children will learn to read musical notation and to keep time, playing with others and performing during Sunday morning worship services.  Please contact our Director of Music Ministries, Leslye Ames, if your child may be interested in joining a handbell choir.
Youth Bells (7th grade and up)
Wednesdays at 4:45 pm, Bell Room (204)
This more advanced handbell choir is typically made up of youth who previously participated in Alpha Bells.  However, newcomers are welcome and encouraged to contact our Music Director, Leslye Ames, if they are interested in joining.
Choir Camp (entering 1st – exiting 6th grades)
Taking place over the course of 5 very intensive days, Choir Camp provides children with the opportunity to learn and rehearse an entire musical within the span of a week during the summer!  Children learn music, lines, choreography, and help with the set!  The week culminates with a Thursday evening performance for family and friends.  It truly is amazing to see what the kids can accomplish, and Choir Camp has long been a favorite among participants and audience members alike!
Music for Adults
Chancel Choir
Sundays at 5:00 pm, Choir Room (2nd floor)
With a diverse repertoire of traditional and more modern hymns, the music sung by our Chancel Choir serves to enhance our 11:00 am Sunday morning worship experience, quieting our minds and focusing our hearts on God.  Practices take place Sunday evenings at 5:00 pm, under the direction of Chancel Choir Director Jerry Cunningham, and provide a wonderful time of fellowship and praise.  The Chancel Choir is truly like a family, and is always looking for more folks to join them!
Adult Bells
Sundays at 4:00 pm, Bell Room (204)
The adult handbell choir is a welcoming group made up of ringers of all skill levels, who enjoy playing a variety of pieces together.  Every couple of months, the choir will perform its latest piece during Sunday morning worship.
Faithful Fretters Dulcimer Group
Wednesdays at 6:30 pm, room 305
It doesn’t matter whether you are a beginner, an expert, or just want to learn!  You’ll find welcome among the Faithful Fretters, who come together each week under the tutelage of Bob & Rose Taunton to learn and practice bluegrass-style, old-timey, and other hymns.
Special Music
We encourage members of our congregation to use their musical talents to the glory of God by providing occasional special music during worship times.  Our worship services have featured special instrumentalists playing trumpet, trombone, flute, dulcimer, guitar, French horn, and others, as well as vocalists who have performed solos or in ensembles.
