Job Description:

TITLE: Nursery Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor

HOURS:  5-6 hours/week (8:30 am – 12:15 pm Sundays; 5:45 – 7:15 pm Wednesdays)



  • Wages will be paid as determined when hired, and reviewed annually.

BASIC PURPOSE: To meet the needs of infants and toddlers and their parents for a safe and secure environment that encourages them to grow physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
  • Responsible for the care and well-being of children ages six-weeks through three years during Sunday morning, Wednesday night, and at other designated Church activities.
  • Responsible for providing age-appropriate care which includes: feeding, changing diapers, escorting to the bathroom, maintaining a safe environment, putting children down for naps, holding, or sitting with and interacting with children through games, stories, play and
  • Be polite, friendly, and courteous to all children, parents and volunteers.
  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to the 8:50 AM service. The nursery is open every Sunday from 8:35 AM – 12:15 PM. Employee is expected to work all Sundays including holidays and special services (including Christmas and Holy Week)
  • Stay until all children are secured with their responsible adults.
  • Recruit, train, supervise and schedule nursery workers for Sunday services, meetings, and special church activities in accordance with First United Methodist’s Safe Sanctuary policy.
  • Keep nursery clean, neat and sanitized.

  • Have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ based on a commitment to prayer and God’s Word
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Christ’s holy church.

   Interpersonal Skills:

  • Demonstrate good rapport with children
  • Capable of recruiting, training, and supporting coordinators, leaders and volunteers
  • Display personal openness, integrity and honesty in interpersonal relationships
  • Work well with the church staff, children, lay leadership and parents


  • Comply with all requirements of the Employee Information Guide and all church policies, to include specifically the Safe Sanctuary policy
  • Pass criminal background check and drug test
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Attend meetings of Church Council and Staff
  • Perform other related duties at the direction of the Pastor
  • Acquire and maintain certification in CPR for infants and small children within three months of hire.


  • High School diploma or GED equivalent



Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.



Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems efficiently and effectively.

This position is accountable to the Senior Pastor and the Staff/Pastor Relations Committee. Performance will be evaluated at least annually.
