To my First United Methodist family,

Our COVID-19 task force has been working on how to move forward during this season, and I want to share the plan so far.  Last Thursday, our annual conference recommended that churches hold online, outdoor and drive-in worship services through the month of June.  Based on that recommendation, we have created a plan to hold outdoor worship starting Sunday, June 14 and continuing at least through the rest of June and July.

Here is an outline of that plan:

  • We will hold one outdoor service at 9 AM just outside the front steps of the sanctuary. If there is a significant threat of rain, the service will be streaming-only, and the decision will be made and communicated to the church via email, website, and Facebook by 5 PM on the Friday before. All worship will continue to be streamed to the church’s website and Facebook pages, even on days when outdoor worship is held.
  • Worshippers will be encouraged to bring their own lawn chair. There will be marked seating areas for individuals or same-household families on the sidewalk, lawn, and in a section of the parking lot directly out from the sanctuary steps.  There will be a limited number of sanitized seats for those lacking them, but people are encouraged to bring their own to minimize touching of shared surfaces.
  • There will also be sections of the parking lot available for people who wish to drive-in and worship while seated in their cars.
  • We will celebrate Holy Communion using pre-packaged elements.

If you are at high risk for the virus, and you would be interested in having a prepared seating area in the Fellowship Hall, please let me know.  If you have any questions about this plan, please do not hesitate to contact me at 334.805.6390. Thank you for your prayers.  God, in His lovingkindness, will continue to sustain us!

In Christ,

Clint
